THE MOORINGS SAFETY INITIATIVE
Over the first months of 2025, the MPOA has been working closely with Moorings residents, MPOA members, Naples City officials, and representatives from the Naples Police and Public Works departments to identify and address safety concerns in the Moorings. This collaborative effort has included surveys, a well-attended Safety Town Hall in April, and ongoing meetings with many stakeholders.
Two key outcomes have emerged from this process:
Roundabout Design Approved
At the June 4th City Council meeting, representatives from the Public Works department presented and answered questions on two design options for improvement of the intersection of Crayton Road and Harbour Drive — an area repeatedly highlighted by residents as a major safety concern. Following the presentations, which provided data on the clear and compelling safety benefits of roundabouts, the City Council voted 4–3 in favor of moving forward with the roundabout design. The current timeline expects construction to begin in the summer of 2026.
LPR/Video Donation Accepted
At the June 18th City Council meeting, the Council unanimously approved the acceptance of a $110,000 donation from the MPOA to fund the purchase and installation of license plate readers at three key entry points to the Moorings. These cameras are a proven tool for deterring crime and aiding law enforcement in keeping our neighborhood safe. To ensure these cameras are installed quickly — ideally by this fall — the MPOA advanced the full cost of the project. Learn more about LPR technology.
While this initiative was funded by the MPOA, the safety benefits extend to the entire Moorings community. We are now inviting MPOA members and Moorings residents to help offset the cost of this important project.
LPR/Video Donation
Whether you’re an MPOA member or not, your support matters. Please consider making a donation of $25, $50, $100, or any amount that feels right for you. Every contribution helps.
The MPOA Friends Fund
Each year, generous MPOA members donate money, often when they are renewing their annual memberships. These additional funds are given in support of the Beach Park and our broader mission for The Moorings community and environment. Following Hurricane Ian’s damage in 2022, donations were a critical source of funding for cleanup and restoration.
Donations to the MPOA Friends Fund are accepted online or by mail.
Thank you for your generosity!
